Tested, Inspected & Certified.
CVS-I kits include the components needed to install your new central vacuum in one specially designed kit. The CVS-I install kit includes intrasystem fittings, inlet components and install accessories. All CVS-I install kits use the finest available ASTM 2158 compliant materials from the industry's best manufacturers including Plastiflex, Hayden, Vaculine, Beldin, Panduit and Jabat.
All intrasystem fittings and 2" CVS-PVC tube used in CVS-I install kits are IAPMO UMC compliant and all wire and cable ties are UL approved. Every CVS-I Do-It-Yourself central vacuum install kit comes with install manuals and video on CD that can be viewed on your PC or printed for easy reference along with additional instructional materials and product video. And for safe delivery CVS-I install kits include professional packaging for both the fittings and tube, using custom packaging that protects the pipe ends from chipping and damage in transit.
Standardized, Interchangeable & Expandable
Kits are available for various recommended installation sizes from 900 sqft. to 6000 sqft. CVS-I Kits are rated for size by the number of valves and pipe included. All install kits are able to inter-operate with any other CVS-I install kit sold by Vacdepot. Multiple kits may be added together to achieve the materials needed to cover a larger installation. All square foot ratings are estimates based on the amount of pipe and the number of inlets included, some installations may need more or less than the normal amount of materials due to the layout of the home or special needs - please call us if you would like to discuss your plans.
Choose Your Valve System & Color
CVS-I's Direct Connect install kit is the first available in your choice of Hayden SuperValve inlet or the Vaculine ElectraValve inlet - for the same price. Both valve types can be used in all of the same applications, though some prefer the ElectraValve more for retrofit (existing) installations. Each of our direct connect inlet systems uses the deluxe and attractive full door cover.
All Direct Connect inlets have a 2 wire mini-pin high voltage receptacle that interconnects with a Direct Connect type hose to provide power down the hose for use with an electric brush.
Direct Connect inlets are used most often in homes with some or mostly carpeted floors where a powered brush is used for thorough vacuuming. Also called a SuperValve or "one-step" valve, the Direct Connect Inlet provides the additional benefit of all connections (suction hose, low-volt signal, high voltage power) in one wall plate. Unlike universal inlets that require you to plug in an additional cord at an electrical outlet nearby the vacuum inlet to provide power down the hose, the Direct Connect inlet provides all-in-one convenience. Direct Connection inlets are used most often in new-construction and require that an electrician run the high-voltage portion of the wiring while the CVS install will continue to install the tube and low-voltage portion of the system. Homes that have almost exclusively hard flooring generally would use the Universal Inlet type for use with a suction only or turbo cleaning attachment which does not require high voltage wiring.
Many prefer installing the Direct Connect valve during new construction in hard floor homes to remain future proof should carpet or rugs be installed in the future. Direct Connect inlets are compatible with all hose types, even universal, low-volt and zero-volt types. Retro-Fit installations (pre-existing homes) generally use universal inlets to avoid the extra step of running high-voltage wire to each inlet that may require an electrician, although roughing-in a direct connect inlet is the same procedure as universal inlets in retro-fits. Every component used in our CVS-I kits from CVS-PVC tube, to low volt wire and PVC cement are the same high quality components as used by our professional installers at The Central Vacuum Depot, Dallas/Fort Worth.

Which Kit Do You Need?
CVS-I Kits differ in feet of tube per inlet. Most often the more inlets you install the less pipe you will use per inlet, with the average about 20 feet of tube per inlet. Each inlet will cover an estimated 500 - 700 sqft of floor space when using a 30-foot hose. While most installations will need just one kit, some others may do better by mixing two kits to achieve the number of valves and length of tube you need. Be sure to add additional tube if you have a long run to your power unit, want to add an exterior exhaust or want to add a vacpan sweep inlet. It is almost impossible to have too many inlets, but having too few can defeat the entire convenience of using your new central vacuum system. Be sure to read our CVS Install FAQ for some helpful hints before you order, or just give us a call for a quick free consultation.

Inlet Door (wall inlet, wall valve)
The inlet door is the finishing plate that acts as a valve where your cleaning hose
is inserted into the vacuum tubing system. The Direct Connect inlet door is opened to insert the hose and holds the low volt contacts to activate the remote suction motor along with the 120 volt mini-pin receptacle to power the electric carpet brush. All modern inlets doors have 1.5" ID openings with two low voltage contacts inside the opening. All C/V/S-I Direct Connect install kits include attractive deluxe full door inlets in White, Ivory or Almond colors. Full door inlets hide the mounting screws and spring closure under the inlet door and provide a clean finish.
Vacdepot offer both Direct Connect inlet styles that are available in the US, the Hayden SuperValve and the Vaculine ElectraValve.
Both have full doors, and can be used in any dual voltage application. The main differences are mounting and high volt wiring hook-up. The ElectraValve uses a standard mounting plate which can fit 2X4 & 2X3 walls, can easily be used in new construction and retrofits (existing construction) and includes a ROMEX building wire with a modular connector on the end. With ElectraValve you connect the included wire (various lengths & gauges available, 6ft standard) from the inlet to the nearest power source - usually a standard duplex junction box. Upon final installation the high voltage connector is attached to the inlet door which is then fastened to the mounting bracket on the wall.
The Hayden SuperValve is often preferred for new construction applications. The Supervalve can also be used in 2X4 or 2X3 construction, and can be used in remodel installations where the wall is open, but may be limited in some retrofit installations. The new SuperValve uses an easy reversible flange to align the mounting plate to any wall. The SuperValve's mounting plate includes a high voltage junction box and after installation of the inlet, ROMEX wire is pulled from the nearest power source to the inlet. Upon final installation the inlet door that includes the built-in connector is wired to the ROMEX wire inside the inlets junction box as the inlet is fastened to the mounting bracket on the wall. The SuperValve is a standard vertical door that can open down or up. Hayden now also offers the unique SideOpen inlet door which can be used in all of the same applications as regular vertical doors, and in some other areas where the standard vertical valve may be limited from opening fully. Available SideOpen colors limited.

Mounting Plate (inlet mounting bracket, backplate)
The mounting plate is attached to a framing stud behind the drywall in new construction by use of its nailing fin with screws. The mounting plate serves as the connector between the inlet door and the vacuum tubing system. The mounting plate accepts a fitting in the back (usually a short elbow described below) and has a gasketed opening in the front.
The gasketed opening lets you attach the inlet door to the front of the mounting plate with screws instead of glue so that the inlet door may be removed in the future much like a switch cover. In retro fit (pre-existing homes) the nailing fin is removed from the mounting plate and the inlet door is screwed to the mounting plate that sandwiches the drywall to hold the system in place. The mounting plate used with Hayden SuperValve Direct Connect inlets also includes a junction box and ROMEX wire connector for connection to a nearby power junction or outlet box.

2" PVC Vacuum Tubing (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
Central Vacuum Systems use a specially designed and specially sized pipe to carry air and debris to the power unit, which is also the collection system that is remotely mounted usually in an attached garage, basement or utility room. CVS-PVC is sized differently than waste or water pipe at 2 inches outer diameter. This prevents someone from accidentally using the wrong pipe, and more importantly insures you achieve the correct airflow without clogging.
CVS-PVC is an extruded pipe much like regular PVC with a special smooth bore interior. IAPMO certified ASTM-F2158 CVS-PVC is currently available from only two manufactures including Vacdepot's PVC extruder, Jabat Inc. All Vacdepot Vacuum tubing is sold in 4'11" (59 total inches) sections referred to nominally as a "5 foot stick". Our new 5' sticks are easy to handle, easy to transport and easy to use on the job in attics, service paths, crawl spaces and other tight areas.

18/2 Power Limited (low volt) UL Approved Wire
The low volt wire in a central vacuum system is used to signal the power unit (suction motor) from the wall inlet. Our thicker 18 gauge 2 conductor wire is UL approved for power-limited applications including central vacuum signaling. Our wire is rolled for easy dispensing and the stronger 18 gauge makes for easy pulling. In most installations the signal wire is run next to the pipe system to enable easy inspection of the signal wire. Wire lengths can be spliced with wire nuts or crimps and electric tape.

PVC Cement
Vacuflo All-Weather, IPS Weld-On PVC710 or equivalent. Clear PVC Cement is a regular-bodied and fast setting PVC for all classes of 2-inch PVC tube. Comes in four ounces metal cans with applicator attached to the lid. One 4 ounce can will cover most applications up to 200 linear feet of pipe and 10 inlets.
CVS-PVC cementing tip - apply glue to the male side of the connection (pipe or spigot), not the inside of a fitting where it may build up and degrade airflow. Always use fast-set cement for vacuum systems.

What's Not Included?
You will need a basic set of tools including a 2.25 - 2.5 inch diameter auger type (preferred) or hole-saw type drill bit. A right angle drill is great if you have it, but not necessary in most installs. Common methods for cutting pipe include miter saw or miter box, any method for making straight cuts - just be sure to always debur your pipe cuts. Other components commonly used in CV installations are standard electrical tape for any low volt splices you may want to make and nail guards. Nail guards are attached to headers or footers where pipe enters a wall. Nail guards prevent others from puncturing your tube system (usually drywall installers). Nail guards are used only in new construction and are available at any hardware store for about $.30 cents each. In a SuperValve system the ROMEX building wire is not included and will often be included by your electrician during installation. Vaculine ElectraValve inlets do include the building wire in 6ft (standard) or 14ft (optional) lengths.
CVS-I install kits also do not include a muffler, exhaust vent or any of the optional exhaust finish-out. Many CVS power units now include an exhaust muffler, check your model before you purchase an extra. The optional exhaust outlet (vent) Vaculine item CV5540W is available in the accessories section. Exhausting your CVS is a good idea when possible, but optional.
Vacdepot packs our CVS-I installation kits with the industry's very best quality components, our comprehensive install CD and our decades of CVS experience. Our commitment does not end when the kit is delivered. Vacdepot CV installers are always available to help by phone or email with your questions. Purchasing a CVS-I install kit means you will receive the best components and service in central cleaning systems.
